Making Piece by David Solak

Out of the five elements of hip-hop, the one that always enthralled me since a child was graffiti. Graffiti has evolved since the early days of SEEN and Taki 183. Art and Graffiti have provided myself and others with the substance to sustain life. It supplies us with drive, meaning, passion, and has the ability to be a voice. Today, our voices seem like like less than a whisper in an ocean of voices all chiming louder to be heard. Having a voice in today’s society means being empowered. What could we ask if not that all people feel empowered and that their voice is heard. Graffiti has been a bridge between communities and cultures. Graffiti has the ability to bring together millions of strangers over a common bond. Today, artists have the chance to use their craft to take on the world. This is my chance to be a voice for those who don’t have one. To give them the tools and the skills to empower themselves, chase their dreams, and follow their hearts.
